Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) is a brand of the Wi-Fi Alliance that manufacturers could utilize to brand specialized products that belong to a set of wireless local area network, shortly known as WLAN devices on the basis of IEEE 802.11 standards, which is by far the most general WLAN class nowadays. Because of the close association with its fundamental standard, the word Wi-Fi is frequently used as a synonym of IEEE 802.11 technology.
The Wi-Fi Alliance, a universal connection of companies, promotes WLAN technology and standardized products if they match to influenced standards of interoperability. Not every Wi-Fi device is submitted for documentation to the Wi-Fi Alliance, sometimes the cause of costs related with the certification method. The want of IEEE 802.11 logo does not essentially involve a device is mismatched with Wi-Fi devices.
As per 2010[update], Wi-Fi devices are installed in numerous individual computers, video game layers, PDA (Personal Digital Assistance), printers, and many other peripherals, and almost all laptop or palm-sized PC.
